Reverend Maurice Lane Friedman
The Reverend Maurice Lane (Reese) Friedman was appointed by the Right Reverend James E. Folts, Bishop of the Diocese of West Texas, as the fourth Vicar of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit on July 12, 2002. He began his work here on Sept. 8, 2002.
Before coming to Holy Spirit, Father Reese served as Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockport, Texas. He also served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force, both Active Duty and the Reserves, retiring in Nov. 2004 after 20 years of service. His last tour of duty was at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas where he served since 1995. His active duty time included nine years in Germany, Colorado and Texas.
Fr. Reese celebrated the twenty-sixth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on June 15, 2006. He graduated in 1974 from Penn State University, majoring in archaeology and anthropology; and in 1979 earned his Master of Divinity from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass. He has also studied and served in positions dealing with addictive diseases and bereavement ministries.
