Our mission is "To assist the Clergy by preparing the Sanctuary for all worship services, by caring for all the sacred vessels, linens and appointments used in all services, and by taking care of the vestments of the Clergy. We will go about our task with humility and reverence while remembering that it is a privilege to serve God in his sanctuary." back to top BISHOP'S COMMITTEE We meet on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. for business. Business meetings are open to the congregation. Our members are Gene Dowdy (Bishop's Warden), Pat McCarty (Junior Warden), Rose Hicks (Secretary), Ken Olson (Treasurer), Erlinda Baker, Linda Hadley and Larry Thorp. back to top CHOIR: Musica Nova Meets each Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Our Music Directors are James E. and Tawni R. Garcia. Our mission is "To worship God through music and song. To make a joyful noise to the Lord. To encourage one another to offer our best sacrifices during services and in our daily lives. To let our light shine before others in order to help them worship God." See Musica Nova's MySpace at Musica Nova The choir also participates in The Choral Consortium, a collaborative effort of several area Episcopal churches. Its goals are - to give musicians of smaller parishes and missions the opportunity to perform larger-scale sacred works while representing their parishes and missions; - to engage in musical worship in addition to our Eucharist and Evensong schedules; - to allow Episcopalian musicians to build community and enjoy fellowship; and - to contribute to the fine arts and strengthen ties in our community. The Choral Consortium's website can be found here The Choral Consortium back to top FLOWER GUILD The mission of the Flower Guild is to enhance worship through the beauty of nature. Members provide and arrange flowers for every Sunday service and several special services throughout the year. The sponsor of the Flower Guild is Peggy McCray. back to top HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE The hospitality committee strives to make all feel welcomed in our community. The committee is made up of volunteers who host the coffee hours after Sunday services. The volunteers work in teams of two providing coffee, juice and other beverages as well as delicious snacks. These hosts also serve at various receptions, luncheons and other parish events. The chairperson for this committee is Donna Crabtree. back to top INTERCESSORY PRAYER MINISTRY The purpose of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry is to ensure that each and every member of the congregation is prayed for daily. This ministry is not to be confused with the Intercessory Prayer that is done during the Eucharist. This praying is done independently. In addition to praying for people on their prayer list, members also may be sent special needs or concerns with a prayer request. If you have any kind of regular prayer time and are willing to devote just a few extra minutes to praying for others, please consider this ministry. We always welcome new members and you are assured that your time devoted to this effort is, indeed, well spent. There is no real leader of this group. Kitty Hamilton (647-0769) makes up the prayer lists based on the current congregation roster after people volunteer to pray. back to top NEW MEMBER MINISTRY Our purpose is to welcome visitors into our fellowship and encourage them to become new members. We will also encourage their attendance and integration into our church family. Our ministry includes four subcommittees: “Greeters,” “New Member Potluck”, “Card Ministry”, and "Newcomers' Classes." This committee is chaired by Linda Hadley. Greeters welcome all visitors and be certain they get signed into the guest book and receive a Welcome Bag. They inform visitors about our church and make them comfortable with our facilities, including the nursery, restrooms, Sunday School and parish hall. They introduce visitors to Fr Reese and other members and encourage visitors' participation in coffee time after the service. Linda Constancio heads this subcommittee. The New Member Potluck subcommittee’s mission is to plan and promote regular potluck events (at least quarterly) to introduce visitors and new members to church members in an informal fellowship setting and to keep us one, unified body. Contact Diana Thorp for more information. The Card Ministry’s mission is to stay in touch with visitors and members on occasions including illness, birthdays and anniversaries by sending notes and cards. The Newcomers' Classes help integrate visitors into our fellowship and church membership. Rose Damon is the point of contact. back to top USHERS The Usher Committee welcomes church members and newcomers attending services at Holy Spirit. It is made up of volunteers who provide orders of service, assist people in finding seating in the church, pass the collection plate, bring forward the elements to the altar at the appropriate time, and direct people to the altar for Communion. The chairperson for the Ushers is Bob Crabtree. back to top WORSHIP MINISTRIES Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are licensed by the Diocesan Bishop to read the lessons and administer the chalice during the Eucharist. LEMs also lead the Prayers of the People during the services. At Holy Spirit, LEMs may serve during the Sunday services or during the Wednesday evening service. Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs) are licensed by the Diocesan Bishop to give Communion to members of the congregation who are unable to attend services. On Sundays, LEVs visit people in hospitals, rehabilitation centers or in their homes. These visits are an extension of the Eucharistic service to those who cannot physically be with the community. Acolytes are youth or adults who assist the priest during the Eucharist. They light the candles, carry the processional cross, and receive the offerings from the ushers during Sunday services. They may have other duties, such as holding the Gospel book, holding candles or "torches", and many other tasks as determined by the priest. Duncan McCarroll is the coordinator for the Acolytes. Worship Leaders are licensed by the Diocesan Bishop to lead Morning and Evening Prayer when it is a scheduled service for the entire community. At Holy Spirit, Evening Prayer is scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. back to top EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN Meet the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Our mission is "Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, to provide support, encouragement and compassion by nurturing each other's walk with Christ.
